Want to make your own music?
Richmond Jam is a group of young improvising musicians from Richmondshire who play their own music and their versions of jazz standards.
Richmond Jam arose out of a two-day workshop held as part of the 2009 Richmond Jazz Festival. Since then, Richmond Jam workshops have been held fortnightly from January to November.
The aim of the workshops is to help young musicians to gain the knowledge, skills, experience and confidence to create their own music through individual and group improvisation. Some of the workshops are self-led, others by professional musicians; currently James Mainwaring (
) and Paul Edis (
). A number of concerts are held every year ending with a concert in September at The Georgian Theatre Royal.
If you are a musician aged between 12 and 19 years, why not come along to a couple of workshop to find out if Richmond Jam is for you.
Experience of improvising, 'playing by ear', is not necessary.
Richmond Jam workshops are held on Richmond School campus at the Richmondshire Children and Families' Service: Prevention Centre.
